What is a periodontist?

The Short Answer: We’re a specialized type of dentist, with three additional years of formal training, and we specialize in the management and treatment of periodontal diseases, including gingivitis, periodontitis and gingival recession (gum recession). We are also experts in dental implants.

The Long Answer: The American Dental Association recognizes 12 specialties of dentistry. Periodontics is one of them. A periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the diagnosis and surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases and conditions of the periodontium. So what’s a periodontium? Great question. It’s the specialized tissues that surround and support your teeth.

What does a periodontist treat?

We treat and manage all forms of gingivitis, periodontitis (gum disease) and gingival recession (gum recession), and we also have specialized training in dental implants.
